Current Vice President Elect

Albert P. O’Donnell, of Dunmore, has been elected as President of Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick for 2023. He is the son of Katharine Hennigan O’Donnell and the late Thomas J. O’Donnell, he has a sister Katharine O’Donnell Freeman, MD., and two brothers Thomas J. and Michael J. O’Donnell. He has been a member of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick for other 30 years. 

O’Donnell is a 1983 Graduate of Scranton Preparatory High School, and 1986 Graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and 1989 Graduate of University of Scranton, a 1995 Graduate of Wilkes University with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a 1997 Graduate of Temple University with a Master’s Degree and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility in Educational Administration.

Presently, along with his brother Tom they are fifth generation licensed funeral directors at the Albert P. O’Donnell Funeral Home. Al also is an Administrator in the Scranton School District; presently serving as Principal of William Prescott Elementary School. He is a member of numerous National, State and Local Educational and Funeral Director organizations.

He is a member of Saint Paul’s Parish, Scranton.

Al also was the 2021 President of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Association of Lackawanna County, having been a member of the association for over 30 years. He is also a member of the Irish American Men’s Association and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Al resides in Dunmore with his wife Kathy and their two children Albert and Kate.
