Kyle Gilmartin
Detective Kyle Gilmartin of the Scranton Police Department represents the very best of courage, resilience, and public service in Lackawanna County. Born in Pittston, Pennsylvania,
Detective Gilmartin has dedicated his career to protecting the residents of the City of Scranton with professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to duty.
An eleven-year veteran of the Scranton Police Department, Detective Gilmartin is a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School and the Lackawanna College Police Academy. In 2024, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from King’s College, where he had previously completed coursework prior to beginning his career in law enforcement.
On January 11, 2024, while responding to a violent incident in West Scranton involving gang activity, Detective Gilmartin was shot twice in the head during an ambush while performing his duties as a police officer. The seriousness of his injuries left the community shaken as he was rushed to Geisinger Community Medical Center in critical condition.
In the days and weeks that followed, members of the Scranton community, fellow officers, friends, and neighbors united in prayer and support for his recovery. Through determination, faith, and the strength of those around him, Detective Gilmartin made a remarkable recovery. His courage in the face of danger and his perseverance during his long road to healing stand as powerful reminders of the sacrifices made every day by the men and women who serve in law enforcement.
Detective Gilmartin currently resides in Scranton with his wife, Lindsey, and their son Liam.
